Mind the Gap

Bringing your personal brand to social media can be quite a lot of work.

Social media is a seductive distraction. If you aren’t prepared to get down to business, you can find you waste hours and days investigating social media, because it never stops and some people just can’t get enough of it. This means that you might find yourself in a position where you spend much more time just reading and looking at what’s on social media, than actually bringing to bear your personal brand as it’s understood with social media. You don’t know what happened, but all of a sudden the clock has jumped and you don’t know where the time went.

This could well mean that your personal brand hasn’t made it to your social media platforms (and never mind the possibility that your efforts at creating your own brand might be diluted by the numbers of social media platforms on which you’re active).

You need to invest time into researching what it means to show your personal brand on social media. Particularly if you are in business, you need to come to terms now with the idea that you are a brand, and therefore you must evaluate what you need to do to make yourself seem savvy and interesting. It is the best way to handle social media. You need to be a part of it to keep up with the next guy, and you need to do it as well or better in order to seem like a flexible, valuable individual. It’s really not all that intuitive, when you get down to brass tacks.

This is where putting your research skills into effect pays off. Fortunately, there is a wealth of information crafting your social media strategy, and you can take away a few tips that will help you focus your social media output into a brand that proves quality and expertise. The tip of the iceberg is your getting started, and research will quickly bring you up to speed with some guidelines about how best to proceed. It isn’t too difficult, but research will certainly help, and that is what the jumping off point is, when you are expanding your personal brand on social.
